Health Benefits: Tastes good and good for You
The health benefits to our customers go well beyond the obvious; no steroids, hormones, or fed antibiotics. Research has shown that beef, pork and poultry fed a steady diet of grass with grain are leaner and contain 2-10 times more omega-3 fatty acids than grocery store me
at. Omega-3 is an essential fatty acid that reduces the risks of blood clotting, diseases, and conditions like depression, obesity, diabetes, arthritis, allergies, asthma and dementia. Blood pressure stays lower and so does the risk of heart attack and stroke.
Besides omega-3, grass fed animals have more CLA (conjugated Linoleic Acid). Many studies have shown that CLA shows promise in the fight against cancer and cardiovascular disease, and can reduce levels of 'bad' cholesterol.
More beta-carotenes is also on the list of health benefits. Grass fed animals tend to have a yellow color to their fat. The more yellow, the higher the levels of beta-carotene in the meat. Unfortunately in the U.S. our society has become used to seeing the white fat that is typically see in store bought meat. White fat in other countries is considered inferior.
So besides knowing that you are eating an animal that lived a good life, you get the healthy benefits from enjoying locally grown food.
